A vision for a new Supportive Web

If you haven’t checked out the brave browser you definitely should. I really identify with their mission: to give back to publishers and content creators on the web by making it easy for users to pay for content.

The only thing I don’t like is that I have to install their browser in order to support content creators. Since I have qutebrowser so tightly integrated into my workflow, this just isn’t practical for me.

So, I thought to myself: what could a browser independent solution look like?

I’m envisioning a universal interface that has one, clear affordance. An end user should recognize this affordance on every website he or she visits and be able to initiate a one-off payment, or a recurring payment, with a simple mouse click.

In concrete terms, this means that the button to star a github repository would have a decorative banner. Starring this repository implies that you will be making a financial contribution to the project.

The following image shows how this could work:

That’s the vision!

The major question now is whether or not this is even technically feasible 😄
