The pudding is in the planning
So, the time has finally arrived and the preparation for our year long sabbatical is in full swing. To help give you a feel for what this looks like, I figured I could list off some of the things we had to do and how long it took.
- Duration: many hours, Search for a suitable Motorhome on Kijiji and close the deal! We ended up with this fine beauty (his name is Randy Vandy)
- Duration: 30 minutes, Sketch a rough plan (or as the Enterprise Architects among us would say, a “To Be” model) of where the journey will take us.
- Duration: many hours, Save all of our important documents and other information in our password manager of choice. I’ve been using LastPass for this for quite some time
and here are some of the things we didn’t do:
- Duration: 0 seconds, We didn’t quit our job on a Friday so that we could have “the weekend to pack” and fly on Monday. Seriously, organizing such a trip takes weeks of planning when you add up the long tail of small stuff that needs to be done (doctor’s visits, insurance coverage, …)
- Duration: 0 seconds, Book PCR tests before departure and after landing. Most restrictions have been lifted in Canada (and in our transit countries) for fully vaccinated travellers during the dates on which we will be traveling
Now that we have all of this preparatory work finished, all that’s left to do is make sure that we don’t get hit by a bus on the way to the airport 😂
